Wajahat Masood is a journalist, pundit, and political analyst from Pakistan. He is widely regarded as a liberal and human rights advocate. He is currently employed by the Urdu-language daily newspaper Daily Jang. He has previously worked for the BBC and other companies. He is the current chief editor of Hum Sab Urdu and Hum Sub English

Education

Wajahat Masood was born on August 3, 1966. He received his bachelor’s degree from Government College University in Lahore and his master’s degree in English from the University of the Punjab in Lahore, Pakistan. He then went on to get an LLM in International Human Rights Law from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.

Career

Wajahat Masood spent his career in three fields: education, human rights, and journalism. He founded the Democratic Commission for Human Development in 1994 and served as its director for 11 years, in addition to consulting for several international development agencies. Wajahat Masood educated thousands of young activists in Pakistani areas about human rights and development. Since 2014, Wajahat Masood has served as acting chairperson of the Centre for Social Justice.

He also worked for national newspapers such as The News International, The Post (Pakistan), and Daily Aaj Kal. He was also the editor of the monthly journal Nawa-i-Insaan, the daily Mashriq, and the weekly Hum Shehri. From 2005 until 2008, he was a columnist for the BBC Urdu service.

He previously worked as a political analyst for Pakistani television (PTV), Samaa TV, AAP News, and Radio Pakistan. He also appears as a TV commentator for PNN four times a week, in addition to many private television stations in Pakistan and overseas.

Up until July 2015, when he resigned, he was also a professor at Beaconhouse National University. He has also taught at the Punjab University, Government College University, Lahore, the National College of Arts (Lahore), and the Lahore School of Law. He is the current Chief Editor of the e-paper Humsub. He founded the website Dunyapakistan.com. He is a well-known Urdu language columnist. He writes three columns per week for the country’s most widely published Urdu language newspaper, Daily Jang, as well as a weekly column for Deutsche Welle.

In his recently published book, renowned journalist and columnist I.A. Rehman praised Wajahat Masood’s journalistic ability. According to I.A. Rehman, Wajahat Masood not only informs his readers but also helps them understand the bigger picture of Pakistan’s political predicament.
