Salman Akram Raja is a famous Pakistani lawyer, lecturer, and writer.
Biography
Salman Akram Raja was born in an advocate family. His father, Raja Muhammad Akram, was a senior advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and a member of the Lahore Bar Association. The family belongs to the village of Arazi Hasnal. The town is part of Tehsil Gujar Khan, Rawalpindi.
Education
Salman started his schooling in his native town. He was a brilliant and shining student. After completing his early education, he did an M.A. (Cantab) from Downing College, University of Cambridge in 1989.
Salman joined SOAS, University of London and completed graduation in 1994. Later, he entered Harvard Law School in Massachusetts for his LLM. He completed his LLM degree in 2001.

He came back to Pakistan after graduation in 1994. He took membership in the Punjab Bar Council as an advocate of the High Court, Pakistan. Later, he went abroad for LLM. After completing his LLM, he continued his practice. In 2007, he became an advocate of the Supreme Court by joining the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Career
After graduation, Salman returned to Pakistan and started his professional career as an advocate of the high court. He did hard work and became a very successful lawyer. Later, to enhance his professional qualification, he went abroad.

He returned after completing his LLM degree and restarted his practice as an advocate of the Supreme Court. He has almost 30 years of experience handling constitutional, commercial, and corporate cases.
Salman has many individual clients; however, he mainly has international business groups, banks, trade organizations, and corporations. In particular, he is famous for cases involving electricity, gas, media, tax, and telecommunication laws.
Salman has large corporate clients like the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturer Association. Many pharmaceutical manufacturers are his clients. He also represented the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He remained a member of the President’s Steering Committee on Higher Education Reform in 2001.
He contributed significantly to drafting the Model Universities Ordinance (again in 2001). The ordinance results in positive change in public sector universities. Salman remained a member of the Company Law Reform Commission.
Counsel
Salman started his career as counsel in significant cases, but later, Salam began to act as a lead counsel. He was counsel for Dr Mubashir Hassan against Hassan’s challenge to the National Reconciliation Ordinance of 2007. Pervaiz Musharraf issued the ordinance in 2009. The petition benefited many politicians by terminating all their pending criminal cases.
Writer, Speaker & Lecturer
Salman is an excellent writer. He writes articles for the daily DAWN and has a good viewership. His famous articles are “Corporate rehabilitation farce,” “Courting history,” and “Constitutional conundrum.”
Salman teaches at LUMS (Lahore University of Management Sciences), one of Pakistan’s superior universities, and is part of its law faculty. He also teaches at Government College University, Lahore.
He is a great speaker and regularly gives lectures on complex topics like legal and constitutional development. He also does commentary on local and international television channels.
Salman is a prominent figure famous for litigation in Chambers Asia Pacific. He is the Secretary-General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Beside all this, there are cases filed against Salman including Landmark cases like the Panama papers or Human right cases.
Economic Advisory Council
Salaman became a member of the Economic Advisory Council. In 2018, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi signed Salman’s appointment. Salman was the only lawyer member in the EAC.
