Muhammad Farooq is a journalist, Qari, Naat Khawan and newscaster from Pakistan. He has worked for Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) and Radio Pakistan. Muhammad Farooq has also participated in many national and some international Mahafil-e-Qirat and Mehfil-e-Naat. He has been awarded numerous national awards, including the Pride of Performance Award (2000) from Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC), Pakistan Television also nominated him for PTV Award.
Journalistic Career
Muhammad Farooq began his journalism career at the Daily Mashriq Lahore as a sub editor. He has additionally worked for Daily Mashriq Quetta as the Bureau Chief in Lahore. After moving to Quetta in 1997, Farooq took a position as the Daily Mashriq Quetta’s top news editor. He served as founding editor of the first Pakistani evening newspaper, Daily Evening Special, which was established in Quetta on August 10, 2001.
Additionally, he has worked as an editor at the Quetta headquarters of the Universal News Agency (UNA). He also worked for Daily Din Lahore, Daily Akhbar-e-Lahore, and Monthly Education Times Lahore during his career as a journalist. He is currently working with Daily Pakistan Lahore, one of Pakistan’s top newspapers, as a news editor.
Furthermore, he has also fought for press freedom and the rights of journalists.
Newscasting
Farooq started his career as a newscaster for Radio Pakistan (Quetta) in 1997. Pakistani state radio honoured Muhammad Farooq with the Pride of Performance Award in 2000 in appreciation of his contributions. Farooq also spent a long time working as a newscaster for Pakistan Television.
Analyst and Compere
He has also worked for Pakistan Television as a compere and analyst. He made appearances on numerous discussion shows that addressed political and social concerns, particularly those that focused on current affairs, such as News Morning Show and PTV Quetta Center’s Qadam ba Qadam.
Writing
Farooq has also worked as a scriptwriter for Pakistan Television, writing for a variety of Pakistani television shows, including current affairs. He focuses on the various issues that Balochistani people face. In addition, Farooq has written screenplays about Baluchistan’s cities, rural development, and the Khushal Pakistan Programme. He has contributed several articles, editorials, and translations to various newspapers and periodicals.
As a Qari
Muhammad Farooq has performed in front of numerous prominent and esteemed people throughout the world, such as Qari Abdur Rasheed Al Azhari, Qari Hussain Shah, Qari Anwar Shahaat Mahmood Anwar, and Egyptian Qari Shaikh Sayed Abdul Aal Mutawlli. He has additionally taken part in a number of national and international Mehfil-e-Qirat events. He has conducted numerous Mehfil-e-Qirat in Pakistan’s major cities, including Lahore, Quetta, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, and Karachi.
Career in Naat Khawani
Farooq began Naat Khuwani while he was a student at Pakistan Navy School in Karachi, Pakistan. He has won the All Pakistan Naat reciting competition several times. He became well-known across the country when he performed his famous naat, ‘Mujh ko kis din hogi tayyaba ke safar ki agahi,’ on Pakistan Television. He has also given live performances on several Pakistani radio and TV channels. Additionally, he has recorded Naats for FM 101 radio in Quetta and Radio Pakistan.
Muhammad Farooq was nominated by Pakistan Television in 2006 for the PTV Award from PTV Quetta Centre for best Naat Khawan. Additionally, Muhammad Farooq has taken part in a number of national and international Mehfil-e-Naat events. He frequently appears on Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television.
