Mian Abbas Sharif (January 4, 1953 – January 11, 2013) was a Pakistani politician and Tablighi Jamaat missionary who served in Pakistan’s National Assembly from 1993 to 1997. He was Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif’s younger brother.
Early Life
Abbas was born in Lahore, Pakistan, on January 4, 1953. His father, Muhammad Sharif, was an upper-middle-class merchant and entrepreneur whose family had relocated from Anantnag in Kashmir for business in the early twentieth century, eventually settling in the village of Jati Umra in Amritsar district, Punjab. Following the partition of India and Pakistan’s independence in 1947, his parents migrated from Amritsar to Lahore.
Personal Life
Abbas was married to Sabiha Abbas. They had two boys, Aziz and Yousuf, and two daughters, Salma and Sara.
Political Career
Abbas mostly kept a low profile and joined politics only once when he was elected National Assembly member from Lahore in 1993.
Death
Abbas died on 11 January 2013 at the age of 60 of a cardiac arrest.
