You can’t turn off age restrictions on Twitter, but there are workarounds. To create a social media account, you only need an email address. Most websites have recently altered their user policies to require a particular age to use them. Twitter requires a minimum age of 13 years. If you establish an account before the age of 13, Twitter will instantly lock it and revoke your access. Furthermore, there is no official way to turn off Twitter’s age restriction, and you cannot use the service unless you are 13 years or older. Fortunately, there are workarounds available to let you acquire easy access to a Twitter account.
Restore your account if you are over the age limit.
Twitter allows you to reinstate your account if you created it when you were underage but have since reached the age limit.
- First, go to help. Visit twitter.com/account-access with your selected browser. Then, click the ‘Sign in’ button and enter your Twitter credentials to proceed.
- After that, go to the ‘How can we help you with your account’ dropdown menu and choose ‘Appeal a locked or suspended account’.
- Next, you will be requested to fill out a form in which you will submit your basic information, such as your full name, email address, and Twitter username, as well as a description of the problem. You can explain that your account was suspended because you were underage, and now that you have reached the minimum age requirement, you would like to request access to your account. To proceed, click ‘Continue’.
- You would also need to provide a national government-issued identity document including your birthdate for verification purposes. Once completed, click the ‘Submit’ button to initiate the request.
Remember that if the account is qualified for restoration, you have 30 days to proceed. After that, you will no longer have access to your account. Even if the account qualifies for restoration, the process could take up to 72 hours. You will be contacted via your registered email address and Twitter account. Once your account has been reinstated, Twitter may erase or delete account activity before the age of 13. The list goes as follows:
- Posted Tweets
- Likes for other Tweets, Retweets, and Posts.
- Direct Messages (DMs) are sent and received.
- Except for the handle and date of birth, all of the profile information is provided.
- Lists, Moments, and Collections you may have saved.
Furthermore, after restoring the account, it may take up to 24 hours for the followers and following count to restore to normal. Furthermore, you may opt out of certain ‘Personalization and data sharing’ settings. However, once the account has been fully restored, you can review and update them as desired.
Use a VPN.
VPN (Virtual Private Network) relays your Internet connection from their server, causing a change in IP address and masking your identity. VPNs are also used to access websites that are otherwise inaccessible. A solid VPN with a wide network may be able to help you overcome that age barrier.
Create a new Twitter Account.
If recovering the account or using a VPN does not grant you access to Twitter and you are willing to go to any length, you can start a new Twitter account with a different birth date. Though it is not suggested, submitting a birthday that is more than 13 years old will provide you access to a Twitter account. We have outlined the process for your convenience.
- To get started, go to twitter.com in your preferred browser and select the ‘Create account’ option. Make sure you do not click on the ‘Sign up with Google/Apple’ link because it may contain your birthdate, which could limit your access.
- After that, provide a name for the account. By default, Twitter requests your phone number; if you do not have access to a phone, click the ‘Use email instead’ box to provide your email address. Next, enter a birth date that is more than 13 years old. Once completed, click the ‘Next’ option to proceed.
- On the next screen, uncheck the item and then click the ‘Next’ button. Unchecking this option prevents Twitter from collecting your web activities to tailor your experience based on your browsing history and Internet activity.
- Following that, Twitter will reveal basic account information. To continue, select the ‘Sign up’ option.
- You may see an ‘Authenticate your account’ prompt. Click the ‘Authenticate’ button and solve the captchas.
- After completing the captcha, you will receive a verification code to your email address or phone number, depending on the option you selected when creating your account. Enter the code and then click the ‘Next’ button to begin.
That’s it; you’ll now see your new Twitter account’s home screen. While it may not be possible to disable the age restriction on Twitter, you can use the methods outlined in this post to easily and quickly overcome it.
