In recent developments, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has established clear guidelines for individuals seeking to change their names in the sanctioned database. This process requires a particular visit to a NADRA center, accompanied by a blood relative for biometric verification of the CNICF (Computerized National Identity Card Form). Upon visiting the designated NADRA center, aspirants can gain their CNICF. In cases where a blood or immediate relative isn’t available, documentation for the CNICF can be attained from a gazette officer.
A NADRA representative has stressed specific conditions that aspirants must meet to qualify for a name change. However, the name on the Matriculation Certificate will be reflected in the streamlined CNIC, if the aspirant holds a qualification of Secondary School Certificate (MATRIC) or over. Similarly, if the head of the family (father or hubby) changes their name, all family members must also modify their CNICs NICOPs CRCs.
Conditional Procedure of NADRA:
To initiate the name change process through a deed bean, the following way must be followed
- Give a Valid Reason: Begin by furnishing a valid and specific reason for changing your name.
- Consult Legal Authorities: Seek legal counsel by reaching a counsel, or notary officer, or visiting a quarter court. Apply for an affidavit attested by a first-class justice, explaining the reasons for the name change, your current name, and the new name you wish to borrow officially.
- Necessary Documents: Present the necessary documents as listed in the” needed Documents” section on the sanctioned NADRA runner or as may be demanded grounded on your unique case.
- Attested Affidavit: If the justice is satisfied with your case, they will issue an attested affidavit.
- Publication of Affidavit: Following this, you’ll need to publish your affidavit in a review announcement and in an original review to formally advertise your name change.
- Significance of Gazette Notification: Keep the original clones of the Gazette announcement as they will help you in streamlining other records, similar to your Voter ID and bank accounts.
Obligatory Documents:
When pursuing a name change, you’ll need the following documents
- Certificate of Criminal Record
- Application addressed to a first-class justice
- Identity Card (original and photocopy)
- Birth instrument
Contact NADRA:
Still, you can do so at the following address if you need to visit a NADRA center or communicate with them.
- National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA)
- NADRA State Bank of Pakistan Office block, Shahrah-i-Jamhuriat, G-5/2, Islamabad, 44000, Pakistan
Telephone:

Requirements of NADRA:
Still, you’ll need to submit an affidavit and gain a new birth instrument if you wish to change the name of your child before they turn 18. NADRA provides affidavits for colorful scripts, so make sure to download the applicable form, fill it out, and do it. Please note that the form is in Urdu.
After the age of 18, changing your name without a valid reason can be grueling. It’s pivotal to have a compelling reason for the change, as vague explanations will probably be rejected by NADRA.
To begin the process, fill out the affidavit mentioned before, have it stamped by a state-honored justice, and await a decision. However, you’ll be directed to visit your quarter’s Union Council Office, where the Union Council Secretary will guide you through the necessary way if your request is approved. The entire name-change process generally takes 3 to 7 business days. It’s vital to ensure that other details in NADRA’s database remain accurate and unchanged during this sensitive process. Thus, exercise the utmost caution and sincerity.
NADRA’s policy for changing one’s name is a well-structured and thorough procedure aimed at maintaining the integrity of sanctioned records. While it may bear specific attestation and adherence to guidelines, it ensures that name changes are made for licit reasons. For more detailed information and substantiated guidance, it’s recommended to communicate with NADRA directly or visit their services.
