CSS stands for Central Superior Service Exams. CSS exam is a Competitive Exam, held by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) Islamabad. FCPS appoints candidates for the posts (BS-17) in the respects mentioned below: 

  • Commerce and Trade Service 
  • Railways Group 
  • District Management Group 
  • Information Group 
  • Customs and Excise Services 
  • Income Tax Group 
  • Office Management Group 
  • Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service 
  • Military Lands and Cantonments  

Parts of CSS exams

There are four parts to this competitive exam: 

  • Written exam  
  • Medical test 
  • Psychological test 
  • Viva voce  

Eligibility Criteria:

A candidate who wants to apply for CSS should have to fulfill Educational, Nationality, and Age criteria. 

Nationality Criteria:

The candidate must be a Pakistani National or a permanent resident of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. 

Educational Criteria:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree with no less than 2nd division from any Pakistani University or an equivalent qualification from a foreign university recognized by HEC.
  • An applicant having 3rd Division in his or her Bachelor’s Degree can only apply for exams if he or she has obtained Higher Division in Master’s Degree.

Age Criteria:

The age limit for applicants who want to apply for the CSS Exam is about 21 years to 30 years. 

Basic key points to know about CSS Exam:

  • CSS written Exam has six compulsory and six elective subjects 
  • Applicant must attain 40% marks in compulsory subjects and 33% marks in elective subjects. 
  • Applicant can apply for rechecking of his or her paper with a minimal fee of Rs 500/- per subject. 
  • Applicant’s age must be between 21 years to 30 years on 31st December of the year, in which you are applying 
  • Applicant has to unfold four parts of CSS Exam i.e., written, medical, psychological test and viva voce  
  • An applicant has 3 chances to apply for the CSS Exam. 

How to apply for the CSS Exam in Pakistan:

  1. Submit the exam fee to the nearby Govt. Treasury, State Bank or National Bank of Pakistan in CO2102-Organs of State Exam Fee (FPSC RECEIPT) 
  2. Complete the Online Application Form on the FPSC’s Official Website. Take a Printout of the same online form (called a Hard Copy). 
  3. Send a hard copy of your online form, copies of your identification documents, and a bank receipt to the FPSC office in Islamabad. 
  4. Within 10 days of the closing date, your complete application must be received at the FPSC headquarters in Islamabad. 

Applying online is required for the CSS Exam. When submitting online, keep the following points in mind: 

  1. The online application requires the candidate’s personal information, CNIC number, bank information, names of optional subjects, educational information, experience information, and post preferences. 
  2. The applicant must diligently and precisely give all of this information. 
  3. When you submit your application, you will receive an email with a confirmation number. The same Email comprises your application’s tracking ID. 
  4. You can print your submitted application by clicking on “Take Printout” and inserting your CNIC number and tracking ID. 
  5. If you detect that you made a mistake in providing information in your online application after submitting it, you must fix it on the physical copy of your application and sign it.

The printout (hard copy) must be delivered (by post or by hand) to the FPSC headquarters in Islamabad. Which includes: 

  • Copies of educational documents (i.e., certificates and degrees). 
  • Photographs 
  • Other required documents 
  • Bank receipt of submitted exam fee 
  • Experience certificate, if applicable 
  • Other documents as required in the advertisement.
  • If any applicant has applied for 2-year age restriction relaxation, he or she must have to generate the required certificate, correctly filled out by the competent authorities. All of these certificates are available on the FPSC’s website.
