Asif Ghafoor is a well-known Lieutenant General serving in the Pakistan Army. The primary reason for his fame is ISPR. Currently, he is working in General Communications and Information Technology.
Biography
Asif Ghafoor was born in Islamabad. His date of birth is December 2, 1967. He did his graduation from Command & Staff College in Quetta, Command & Staff College Bandung in Indonesia and National Defence University, Islamabad. He did his masters in strategic studies.
Commission
Asif Ghafoor received cadet training for four years from Kakul in 1984 to 1988. He joined the military on September 9, 1988, in 87 SP Medium Artillery. Asif Ghafoor is a very hard-working person. Due to his consistent work and passion, he has played a significant role throughout his career.
Wars
Asif Ghafoor participated in the Kargil War in 1999 when his rank was Major. Later, he also joined Operation Sherdil as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2008. Operation Sheril was held in the Swat and tribal areas of FATA. In 2016, he commanded a division as a prominent General in Swat & Malakand.
He has served as director of military operations at Army Headquarters, famous as GHQ. Asif Ghafoor also commanded the Divisional Artillery deployed along the line of control as Brigadier. As Brigadier, he remained in charge of the infantry brigade deputed along the eastern border.
ISPR
Inter-Services Public Relations, or ISPR, is a very active office of the Army. ISPR is the media wing of the Army. Its primary responsibility is to provide information to the general public concerning training and other activities of the Pakistan Army.
Asif Ghafoor was appointed as DG ISPR in December 2016. He remained DG ISPR till January 2020. General Asif Ghafoor played a vital role in providing a better public image of the Pakistan Army to the general public. He has worked hard to give confidence to the public concerning various national security issues.
During Asif’s tenure, there was great tension between India and Pakistan. Both countries were involved in many military confrontations, including the Pulwama attack in 2019. He provided significant controlled information to keep the Pakistani people calm by maintaining their trust in their army. His efforts are admired on both national and international levels.
Corps Commander Quetta
In 2016, a sad incident happened when the Pakistan army’s helicopter crashed and six army personnel died (may Allah rest their soul in peace). Among six army personnel, the significant loss was former Corps Commander Quetter (a great man) Lt. General Sarfraz Ali.
Asif Ghafoor is posted as Corps Commander Quetta to take Lt. General Sarfraz Ali’s place. Asif Ghafoor has accepted his new role very well, and till to-date, he is providing his service as Corps Commander. He is again very active in his new post and doing his best for the betterment of the country.
Social Contribution
Asif Ghafoor is very social; recently, he visited the Balochistan University of IT. He gave a brief speech in which he mentioned the importance of knowledge from the Quran. He appreciated the efforts of competent and hard-working teachers. Asif Ghafoor said that the nation owes to the teachers for departing the high-level education and training to the youth.

Asif Ghafoor is a true army personnel. With dedication, hard work, and passion he has always given his best. He has won many awards. Among these awards the most prominent are COAS Commendation Card, which he has received for his splendid services in Bajur. He has also been awarded with one of the highest military awards Hilil-i-Imtiaz.
