Akhtar Jamal is a notable figure in the realm of journalism, serving as the founder and editor-in-chief of Pakistan Press Agency (PPA) and Tele-Visual Infolink. In addition to his editorial roles, Akhtar Jamal serves as a Special Correspondent for Channel News Asia (CNA) in Singapore and Bridges TV in the United States. Pakistan Press Agency (PPA)
Pakistan Press Agency (PPA) was founded in Karachi in 1990 by Akhtar Jamal as its Chief Executive and M. N. Deen as its Managing Editor.
PPA began its work with the Jang Group of Newspapers, where Mr. Jamal had previously worked for several years.
On 30 April 1990, PPA established its Islamabad Bureau office, which was inaugurated by Mr. Jamal and attended by Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman, the founder and then Editor-in-Chief of Jang Group of Newspapers.
Due to extensive coverage by its journalists in the Middle East, particularly in Sydney, Melbourne, Ankara, Istanbul, Beirut, Tehran, Cairo, and Baghdad, PPA rose to prominence during the Iraqi takeover of Kuwait and the 1991 First Gulf War.
Over the past ten years, more than 100,000 PPA stories, primarily in Karachi newspapers, have been published. Additionally, Daily Dawn used a number of PPA-only articles as its primary lead.
Apart from more than a dozen Urdu newspapers, PPA stories were carried in numerous English dailies, including the Pakistan Observer (Islamabad), The News International (Karachi), Jang London, Frontier Post (Peshawar), and The Statesman.
The first book “Who is Who in Pakistan” by the Pakistan Press Agency, edited by Akhtar Jamal, was published in 1998.
Pakistan’s PPA has two main offices: Islamabad and Karachi.
Tele-Visual Infolink (TVI)
Mr. Akhtar Jamal, the founder and editor-in-chief of the Pakistan Press Agency (PPA), established Tele-Visual Infolink (TVI).
Numerous domestic and international TV networks receive visual footage from TVI, the only visual agency in Pakistan. Since establishing its own visual clipping bank, TVI has been able to supply significant video clips to numerous news and information organisations worldwide. In Pakistan, TVI is headquartered in Islamabad, although it also has regional offices in other provincial capitals and Azad Kashmir.
Additionally, TVI provides specialised coverage of regional and international conferences, seminars, exhibitions, and talks on Pakistani and regional issues.
The most comprehensive book and CD on Pakistani websites, named “Web Guide to Pakistan,” was published by TVI in 2007.
“PAKISTAN MEDIA & PR GUIDE” was one of the most unusual media books published by TVI in 2009.
TVI created a website called “ViewPakistan.com” on August 14th, 2009. The main goal of “View Pakistan” is to promote Pakistan as a travel destination around the world and to educate both locals and visitors about Pakistani culture, heritage, lifestyle, and tourism.
In order to determine public opinion on national concerns as well as local and regional issues, TVI frequently conducts surveys and polls.
